Fellow project: "On the philosophy and psychology of free will: What the empirical mind sciences teach us about free will (and what they can’t teach us)"
The question of free will is no longer only discussed in philosophy, psychology and other sciences, but also got into focus of interest of a wider audience. If it is really conscious deliberate decisions or rather unconscious processes that precede the actions of persons concerns every single person and all social contexts in which people act. In this project I will elaborate a new proposal for the freedom of will which will mainly draw upon the philosophical discussion of empirical studies on action control, intentional control of actions, and unconscious as well as conscious mechanisms of decision making, which have been published in the last 10 years. In doing so I will argue for the thesis that our concepts of free will are indirectly based on meta-physical assumptions on the mind-brain-relation.
