Fellow project: "Social Paediatrics and Youth Medicine"
The spectrum of illnesses in young people in developed countries has changed from acute, communicable diseases with high mortality to chronic health conditions. Disease management and positive accomplishment of developmental tasks and milestones create complex challenges for the children and adolescents and their families. Personal resources or psychosocial support may alleviate stresses and strains and adverse environmental factors and must be promoted purposefully as part of ongoing care. Health policies based on empowerment strategies and participatory health promotion take into account the demographic and social changes that are leading to increased diversity within the young population. Solutions go beyond the health care system and have to overcome sectoral and disciplinary segregation. The project aims to develop concepts of health services that meet the needs and provide fairness of opportunities. The work builds on the project of the previous fellowship at Alfried-Krupp-Wissenschaftskolleg in 2012/13 dealing with health related quality of life and participation in children and adolescents.
