Duchenne muscular dystrophy: making the invisible visible

Professor Dr. Volker Straub worked from 1993 for the Medical Residency, Pediatrics at the University of Düsseldorf in Germany. 1995 he went to the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Iowa as Postdoctoral Fellow and came back to Germany in 1998, where he worked and thaught at the Medical Residency at the University of Essen. Since 2003 he works for the Institute of Human Genetics, University of Newcastle.

He has a long-standing interest in the pathogenesis of muscular dystrophies and cardiomyopathies within the neuromuscular research group at Newcastle University. He is engaged in research using zebrafish and mouse models and has a special interest in the use of MRI in muscular dystrophies and cardiomyopathies and the insight that contrastenhanced MRI and quantitative MRI can give into the dynamic processes underlying muscle fibre de- and regeneration.
