The Archaeal Model System Methanosarcina mazei: From Regulation of Nitrogen Metabolism to the Genome and Back

Ruth Schmitz (born 1965 in Aachen) studied biology at the Philipps-Universität Marburg. She received her PhD in 1992 at the group of
Prof. Dr. R. K. Thauer in Marburg. From 1994 to 1996 she was postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Prof. Dr. S. Kustu (University of California). After her habilitation in 2001, Ruth Schmitz worked at the university of Göttingen. Since 2004, she is professor for general microbiology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel.

Professor Dr. Wolfgang Streit
Metagenomics — Biotechnology with Not Yet-cultured Microbes

Wolfgang Streit (born 1964 in Wittlich) is head of the department of microbiology and biotechnology at the Universität Hamburg. He received his PhD in 1992 at the Philipps-Universität Marburg. From 1993 to 2004 he worked as a post-doc in Marburg, in the lab of Prof. Dr. D. A. Phillips (University of California), and as a research assistant at the universities of Bielefeld and Göttingen. In 2004 he became professor for molecular enzyme-technology at the Universität Duisburg-Essen, where he stayed until 2006.
