The Hottest Topics in Conservation Biology

Öffentlicher Abendvortrag

Based on his experience as a researcher, editor, and textbook writer, Professor Primack will outline some of the most exciting new developments in the field of conservation biology and ecology, including environmental DNA, the use of drones, payments for ecosystem services, and citizen science approaches. This presentation will be valuable for students and young researchers developing new projects and established researchers looking to invigorate existing projects. The talk also emphasizes the need for a sense of enthusiasm, curiosity, and connection to nature as an important component of research.

Richard Primack, a professor at Boston University in the USA, investigates the effects of a warming climate on plants and birds, using historical records, modern observations, and experiments. He is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Biological Conservation and author of two textbooks, Essentials of Conservation Biology and A Primer of Conservation Biology, which have 34 foreign language editions with local co-authors. He is currently a Distinguished Overseas Professor in China and a Humboldt Research Awardee in Germany, and past President of the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation. Primack has recently written a popular book about his research, Walden Warming: Climate Change Comes to Thoreau’s Woods.

Moderation: Professor Dr. Jürgen Kreyling
