The Math of Flu

Workshop

Mathematics plays a crucial role in the study of infectious diseases. Its applications range from descriptive statistics providing an overview over an epidemic to complex models of processes such as recombination in viruses. The talks given in this workshop reflect the diversity of topics involved: epidemic models, models of viral evolution, models of inter-species transmission, to name just a few. In addition, some mathematical problems will be discussed that, while arising in this particular application context, might be interesting to be studied in their own right.

The aim of this workshop is to provide the opportunity for sharing insights, ideas and open problems among biologists, medical scientists, mathematicians, statisticians, and computer scientists. At the same time, the students attending the workshop will get a first hand introduction into some current research topics in the area of biomathematics.
