The “Greifswalder Polonicum” is an international summer school for science and culture of Poland. It is financed by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung, Essen, Germany. Seminars on the history and literature of Poland in English, German and Polish held by internationally renowned scholars provide the unique opportunity to learn more about the culture and diversities of Poland from a scientific perspective. This year, we will put an emphasis on different minority groups in Polish society and their reflection in modern literature with the following seminars:
Wojciech Śmieja (Katowice) Between Hegemonic and Marginal: Polish masculinities of the 20th century
Magdalena Lemańczyk (Gdańsk): Mniejszość niemiecka i Kaszubi w Polsce po 1989 roku. Procesy – instytucje – tożsamość
Andrzej Rykała (Łódź): Mniejszości narodowe i etniczne w Polsce – ujęcie geograficzno-historyczne
Lectures and a film screening in cooperation with the Pommersches Landesmuseum (“State Museum Pomerania Trust”) in the evening complete the programme. The opening lecture, the “5th German-Polish Speech”, will be held by Basil Kerski (Gdańsk), director of Europejskie Centrum Solidarności and managing editor of the German-Polish magazine DIALOG.
